Ojdana has over 14 years of public practice experience working as a small business consultant, accountant and tax agent. For the past 8 years, she has been running her own practice Key Accounting & Taxation located on the Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Odjana specialises in small business & individual taxation as well as SMSF administration with the aim to help clients grow their business and increase profits while at the same time making sure their compliance is up to date.

Her other passion is teaching. She has been part of the sessional academic team at Macquarie University since 2009 involved in Revenue Law (Taxation). Ojdana has Bachelor of Commerce – Accounting from Macquarie University and has completed the CPA program.

In this episode, Odjana chats about taxation, log books and has some great tips for small business owners around financial literacy.

In this episode, I’m talking with Stuart Hunter, National Head of Sales Australia and New Zealand at Futrli (pronounced future-ly).

Futrli is an online service where you can get all the answers about your business in one place. Their platform combines existing business data (it integrates seamlessly with Xero) with planning for the future, to help businesses and their advisors make the right decisions.

Stuart started with Futrli back in 2015 when it was still called Crunchboards.  He’s moved from a client support role into a Business Development role where he has helped grow Futrli to be a surplus $1m pa business which is changing the way business owners get their data.

Stuart is a CIMA (UK) (CPA – Australian Equivalent).

In this episode, I’m talking about how to prepare a manual cash flow forecast for your business.  This is important for a few reasons, it allows you to predict your cash at bank at the end of each month, it gives you an opportunity to review expenses (before they hit your bank account) and gives you the foresight you need especially in start-up and growth phases where external funding might need to be arranged.

Episode 8 – Revenue Vs Capital

revenue and capital

In this episide, I’m talking about money coming into your bank account and the difference between two of the different types of income – revenue and capital.

Money coming into your bank account is a good from your sales, or payments from clients or customers of their invoices these are good – even though 1/11th of this belongs to the ATO (we’re talking GST).

But when deposits come into your bank account are non-revenue related – eg from your personal funds to help pay the bills, loans from family and friends, bank or finance company loans. These aren’t good deposits because at some point in the future you are going to have to pay them back. 

The key here is to understand the difference between revenue and capital receipts and which ones will impact your profit and loss and which ones just help your cash flow in the short term but will need to be paid back.
